Commercial Corporate vs Local Community Income

As I network locally, nationally, and globally; I feel a need to talk about jobs and how less and less of us have less and less jobs, and the more education we have, the less ethical jobs are available.

Commercial corporate, industrial factory, or other greed and pollution based jobs that I and most other workers have to pay minimum wage bills are not the answer anymore. Based on the economic market since the Great Recession, there will be less of those unethical jobs. Also more of us are becoming educated about the environment, pollution, history, economics, politics, and civil rights; so less of us will want to have those jobs as we know they will affect us adversely psychologically and combined with over-population will continue to destroy our environment. Scientists seem to be saying that humans have been rapidly destroying entire species of life, but civilized people have taken no substantial actions to stop or undo pollution and killing world-wide or at home; as it would mean going to war with greedy powers.

Local community economies must become more substantial. Meetings should be held to discuss which technologies are important to us, and which ones are destroying our ability to sustain ourselves. Income based living is a fairly new concept, in the history of human existence on this planet, and we now can clearly see the out-come of Capitalist based economies: Bernie ‘Made-off’, ‘Greedy’ Greenspan, Dan Ryan, and Donald Trump. Artists and humanitarians of all kinds have been made to suffer, and told we are not worth anything and should not be able to pay our bills doing what we love and do well, which is to be alive by the grace of Nature and allowed to express our talents in the service of ourselves and others. Instead we have been told by the dominant system that only corporate or government slave labor is practical service.

I believe we have been born into a corrupt system that is wrong. I have written, and will be writing more articles about these issues. I invite you to contact SCOD (Sustainable Cooperative for Organic Development), and please express yourself and tell the world that you have a right to live, helping the community as best you can where-ever you are located; whether you are the most energetic and able bodied person; or all you are best at is being able to write, draw, or speak. Human rights should begin with allowing life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; and to me that means being allowed to live in a home even you cannot earn any money.

The answer as to what kind of economy we need, clearly will be based on what our needs are currently, while planning for the future. Few people think about how things will get worse, and how we can make them better. It begins with finding people locally that you like and have some ability to help you to live better; artists, gardeners, trades-workers, singers, farmers, bakers, or cooks etc… then paying them or trading with them. Next it will take changing our state or national economic system, and making the rich corporate politicians that rape the planet pay for their greedy deeds entirely. Allow the rest of us poor people (that cannot afford our own homes) to live our lives, with an ‘affordable’ living. All people should be given enough to live on by a government, rather than spending the same money on War and Plutocrats. This is sometimes called the ‘basic living wage’ concept; but it goes beyond wages and addresses the ‘right to life’.

Piaget and Montessori In The Classroom – by David Elkind, Tufts University

“Classroom practice, of whatever variety, presupposes a particular conception of the child. In this chapter, four components of Piaget’s and Montessori’s conception of the child are described, together with examples of the sort of educational practice that follows from them.”

Elkind goes on to explain 2 different methods of teaching, by referencing 2 different classrooms where children were using the ‘pink tower’ blocks incorrectly. In one case the teacher corrected the children, and in the other they allowed the play. In theory, he said, both are justified.

Child as capable of self-regulation – learning materials tap mental potential

Child as a cognitive alien – they think different than adults, like foreigners

Child as a logical thinker – young people use logic to make decisions

Child as emotional countryman – they have adult emotions that affect behavior


The first task of the teacher is to observe children, then let that inform how you teach them. It is the teacher’s conception of the child, which in the end, determines the nature of the teacher-child affective interaction using specific methods and techniques. Do not assume what children know or understand, because everyone is different in their awareness, development, and rationality. Respect for children is important, so that they can begin to emulate respect for teachers, others, and themselves. Teaching should be guided by these factors.

Learning As Creation, by John Bremer

Dr. John Bremer founded ‘School-Without-Walls’, Parkway Program, Cambridge

Bremer starts off with a joke about how he once stood up in front of people, and his pants did not. He says “as long as you’ll remember my pajama bottoms all the way through, then I guess I won’t feel too embarrassed about what I say.” Then he proposes a role for the student, as an artist. The artist should understand ‘three essential elements’: material, ideal, and skill. Bremer says that ‘temporal arts’ have a strong presence in time. Songs, music, and dance are temporal arts; you do not “see it before yours eyes as a totally finished thing. You experience it through time.” Temporal arts are more of a ‘process’, than they are an complete object. Bremer says that human beings are more dancers than sculptors, in how they live their lives. “Everything is a rehearsal, and yet everything is the only performance we will ever give. In that way it is incredibly beautiful and also incredibly frightening.” Students should be considered with the humane respect that we might give an adult artist; they are people. He considers the term ‘student’ to be almost equal to ‘artist’. Student = Artist. Teaching means introducing the student to materials, ideals, and skills. School is an activity, not a place; but the structure of a building does matter, as architecture affects learning. Psychological disposition is inherent in education, we all have our own ways or styles of teaching and learning. The student should ‘recreate the wheel’ to be the master of technology, rather that its slave. Also moral responsibility should be introduced by the teacher, so they do not create a ‘Frankenstein’ situation. One way of introducing morality, is to create community, as a bridge between society and individuals. Community to him meant people coming together and cooperatively carrying out common purposes. “We will never all be dancing, we will never all be still.” We dance with others to share love and friendship.

Plasticity is important in early psychological development. Intelligence should no longer be limited by predetermined training, but be allowed to expand and flourish with imaginative experiences. Education is important in the process of learning rules, and but to also think beyond the ‘box’. Piaget described the sensory motory phase as a kind of ‘shell game’. The child develops in progressive sequences, or steps.

Hunt goes on to address Head Start, IQ, vocab, and verbal tests and ages. IQ is not fixed, it fluctuates through-out a person’s life-time. 7 ordinal scales: object construction, strategy means (schemes), imitation gesture (physical), vocal imitation (tonal), operational causality, object relations, object relation. Branches of learning can develop at different rates, this is natural; in accordance with genetics and circumstances like environmental nurturing, social effects, and local area situations. The problem of ‘the match’ is how an equilibrium between stages of development can be key to complex phases of child education. When cognition is lacking, motivation is necessary; as found in The Secret of Childhood, by Montessori. Like the Pavlovian ‘What is it?’ reflex; change of habituated input, recognitive familiarity, and the challenge of ‘old-vs-new’ attraction stimuli all matter greatly. Observe, create, and make sure you are free to adapt your methods in order to teach better.

Audition, Vision, and Kinesthesia should be integrated.


Gellner Rationale of Learning Disabilities, by Ward and Haise

This article criticizes the Gellner approach, but talks about how it is compatible with other systems. It is a neuro-psychological concept of mental retardation, which includes some useful tools for training students that may not be able to fully understand conventional topics. Gellner said that children who are classed as retarded, mainly have brain impairments of either a structural or bio-chemical character. These impairments prevented normal integration of impulses coming from various parts of the body. Senses play a very important part in our learning. Gellner came up with 4 sensory neural systems: 2 involve vision, and 2 involve audition. Mentally retarded children cannot learn in the same ‘normal’ ways, because they suffer from sensory deprivation.

Summary of a Paper by Wallace Yater

One of the most interesting strangers I spoke with at the Boonsboro Green Fest in 2015 was Wallace M. Yater. ‘Wally’ as he is affectionately known, is a brilliant modern philosopher. Wally handed me his theory on the importance of mutations in biodiversity, called ‘Why Such Constant Over-population; or Why Everything In Biology and Life Depends On Very Rare Random Molecular Mistakes’. His paper is a 2015 version, and begins by mentioning how Darwin would be fascinated by our micro-biological discoveries; in relation to evolution and inter-connection between species. Wally is quick to point out human concerns that threaten life on this planet as well. Problems created by population and technology include pollution, poaching, and degradation of ecology.

Human greed seems to have ruled civilization; ever since we did less hunting and gathering, and more agriculture and hoarding. Recent archeology supports his claims, and even has found evidence that gender roles were more equal before patriarchal domination of property in Neanderthal Europe. Politicians have always been bought by ‘big money’, as he reminds us that we already know. Wally also laments that Climate Change is real, and we are doing nothing substantial about it, as fast as we can.

“We are really a very strange bunch of primates, in so many ways…” Wally goes on to say. He goes on to talk about the World History and the psychology of politics. Wally says the “real enigma here, the incomprehensible conundrum, with all this is how could a species with all these conflicting negative traits, have survived…” which also leads into our perception of time, and our own period of existence on this planet. Wally says “there are many answers to this survival question.” Some answers to our survival are beyond our comprehension, some will be repellent, and some will be based on random probability. “Molecules perform flawlessly millions of times, and then a high energy cosmic ray, or a stray contaminant from the environment gets in the way, and a mistake happens.” Some of our rarest mistakes make all the difference for our survival, despite any detriments. “Inspite of all the bad results, these random ‘mistakes’ are so important, life on Earth wouldn’t even be here without them!” Mistakes change DNA, and generate variation, which is how life evolves, survives, but yes also dies.

Wally asks us “Why is sex so important?” What is with all this sexual competition? “Even bacteria trade DNA, which is a form of sex. One answer.” Wally says all the sex is about speeding up evolution for complex organisms “like us”. Wally hints that with thousands of genes chosen randomly, we should not feel bad that most of us will not be famous; because “many famous successful people have many brothers and sisters you never hear about”.

“Virtually everyone you talk to has a ‘gut feeling’ that it is only a matter of time, that this present state of affairs will drastically change in a lot of ways we are not going to like.” “Vast human die offs have always been with us.” “We have always been like rats.” Some vermin usually survive extermination. He goes on to talk about the devolution that ‘dysgenics’ causes; when the ‘less fit’ are allowed to survive and breed. Wally mentions the problem of genetically ‘fixing’ crops, while pests continue to evolve. To compensate for natural blights we drench our food in poison.

“Is genocide a human trait?” Wally thinks it seems so, given our historic patterns of slaughter and suffering. Our pack-mentality favors shared suffering. Like frogs unaware that they are slowly boiling to death in a pot, we may be massively incapable of solving our problems.

“What has been presented here is the result of almost 8 decades of observing neighbors, coupled with a broader over-all view,” of science and history. “If all 7 billion people on this planet read this, it wouldn’t change anything. Only a few would comprehend anything close to the original idea. It wouldn’t get a meaningful number of people to ‘give anything up’.” “As the Bible says, ‘the poor and the meek shall inherit the Earth’. It doesn’t tell us how much they will have to suffer, to do it; and how few of them will end up with the prize.” “…we have very close to no control over any of this.”

Most people are too ignorant and confused by the commercial-industrial system to get what Wally, and other wise elders have been trying to teach us. Even the voices of our ancestors speak to us from the pages of history, and they ask us to slow down, and learn and use the natural world around us, responsibly; because this planet is our home and we are part of a DNA family ecological system. Scientists like Carl Sagan have agreed with many of Wally’s points too, for decades. On behalf of all the rats that get it, thanks Wally!

Boonsboro MD Green Fest 2015

Boonsboro MD Green Fest

For years I had been meaning to visit my neighbors in the local area town of Boonsboro for their Green Fest, and finally through SCOD networking I was able to advertise for it and attend it. From10am-5pm dozens of tents (200 vendors) were set up all over a generous sized town park with stone bridges and a large stone gazebo and three pavilions. Merchants and groups from all around the area were vendors; artists, crafters, designers, landscapers, healers, alternative techies, stewards, farmers, and brewers. Most of the vendors had claim to some kind of ‘green’ product or service, or both. Even the infamous ‘Dan Ryan Builders’ were oddly among the list of sponsors; perhaps due to some guilt from destroying thousands of acres of farmland and wilderness, but more likely smart propaganda from social pressure to sustain profits. Greedy profits are being challenged by community based exchange when events like this increasing spread scod alternative architecture and environmental and historic preservation concepts. There was also live music and tons of play structures for children, and wine and beer for adults. Most impressively there was a huge clothing swap and recycling exchange area! My only practical criticism was that there should have been more trash cans and recycling bins along the tent paths. With 150 volunteers and thousands of visitors, the event is clearly successful.

Perhaps some year I will risk paying the vendor fee to sell my books like BOG Peeps and SCOD Thesis, however I might not sell enough books to make back the cost of the tent and space. However it does seem more artistic and intellectual than other outdoor events with emphasis on other things like outdoor athletics, music, or food / drink. or had less people. Among the many vendors I visited and spoke with were Moonshine Forge Blacksmith Shop, Windsong Healing Arts, Farm of Peace, Rose Sanders-Mendez Artisan Jewelers, DM Designs, Western MD Solar Panels, Mtv Solar Electric Cars, Branching Out UMD Woodland Stewardship program, Valley Co-op, MOMs Organic Grocery, Common Market, and Natural Fusion Hair Stylist. It was wonderful to see so many people into the ‘Green’ movement, see old acquaintances, and meet new people too! One of the most interesting strangers I spoke with was Mr. Wallace M. Yater. ‘Wally’ as he is affectionately known, is a brilliant modern philosopher that deserves an entire essay and book based on his ideas, practices, and experiences. Wally handed me his theory on the importance of mutations in biodiversity, called ‘Why Everything In Biology and Life Depends On Very Rare Random Molecular Mistakes’; but that is another story….

Home-made Deodorant

Stink-B-Gone home-made deodorant recipe:

equal parts of,

baking soda
corn starch
arrow-root powder

Mix these together dry in a bowl. Add enough extra-virgin coconut oil to make it the consistency of frosting. Put in 4 oz. mason jar. It works really well and a little bit goes a long way.

Progression of Aggression

Modern automobiles are a deadly fun convenience for transportation. Yay human civilization, fuck everything else. Roads and vehicles basically say a big FUCK YOU to birds, bees, bugs, plants, animals, and life in general on Planet Earth. Cars and trucks are one of the main killers of life on this planet every day. The truly suicidal thing about the race for bigger and badder killing machines, is that besides murdering billions of deer, possum, skunk, turtles, and other cute critters, we are murdering ourselves too.

TV Shows like ‘Top Gear’ are entertaining, and i certainly have enjoyed watching their stupid antics and testosterone driven points; but there must come a time when we all collectively say “Who the fuck put assholes in charge of running and hosting everything in society?” Even the most ‘hippy’ of the 3 annoying hosts made a statement about alternative cars that made me feel sorry for the state of humanity. What that jerk said may be accurate about hydrogen-fuel-cell electric cars as being the only ‘car of the future’ because they “have all the convenience and horse-power of our current petrol car standards” (or something to that effect) because we have all been pressured to feel that ‘Progress = Aggressive Power’, just as that host was advocating as though the company had given him a bribe.

Progress does not have to mean going faster, moving with more thrust, or being better. Yes often progress should mean being more efficient, breaking records, and all that competitive ‘dog eat dog’ ‘survival of the fittest’ shit. However popular commercial peer pressure is driving the need for road-rage, arrogance, aggression, and pollution as ‘progress’; and to prove that this should not always be our definition of what is ‘good progress’, we need only think about technology that some of us realize we are too stupid to use all the time. For example how many of us say we need to only use nuclear bombs or stronger weapons all the time, since anything less would be ‘going backwards’.

We need to be teaching kids not only that they do not always have to ‘win’ or be ‘winning’ all the time; but sometimes we need to decide to throw the ring into the volcano. To learn how to begin to want to put harmful ideas or technology aside, must start at a young age; otherwise you get tons of middle-aged men having problems figuring this out even during their mid-life crisis with their fucking sports cars. Commercial sports and cars may be fun, but they are both fucking idiotic.

Alternative Marriages

Some of us were individual adults when we married other independent adults. There are many types of working partnerships that are all called marriages out there. Just because some of us do not wear rings, or otherwise advertise our relationships by changing our names etc… does not make our marriages any less significant to us.

I do not give other people a hard time if they are married and do not tell just because i was talking to them, or if they dont have a ring on or whatever. There are many different people, and different types of marriages that work differently for those people. Some people have open marriages, or are swingers, etc… marriage has many aspects to it, in its broadest sense its about a special partnership. My wife and I are very content being ourselves, for example i did not make her take my last name, because i respected her family i wanted her to keep her name.

One interesting historic fact that sometimes people forget, is that marriage existed long before Christianity, and was not even accepted by the Church until later on. So Christianity does not own Marriage. Even today other religions, and people of no religions get married, and not all of the vows are the same. Even coming from a liberal family, I often was surprised to learn about the diverse reality of even conventional marriages, never-mind finding out about alternative relationships! I remember the first time I realized two people of the same sex often live with each-other as a partnered couple; and realizing how that was ok because they were happy in their relationships. Other times when I was single and lonely, I found myself occasionally jealous of people in relationships, and had to deal with my negative emotions. These feelings of ignorance and jealousy are natural, I just think we should address them and be aware of the reality and what we think.

As a pagan priest, I do realize there are some conventional people that cannot understand this concept of alternative marriages, to which I can only say do what makes you happy, so long as it does not hurt others, and do not judge others by false standards.
