Fatal Police Shootings

Civilian Vs. Police Deaths By Firearm Shootings

According to the Washington Post and CNN articles more civilians are killed than police from shootings, at a ratio of apx. 50 cops / 1000 civilians. The term ‘civilian’ is used here because although police are supposed to be citizen civilians also, police have become far more militarized with their training and equipment; and police (ICE) have a war against immigrants who are not citizens. Police are taught to kill people as quickly as soldiers, making neighborhoods into war zones.

Not all civilian shootings or murders are reported by police,* to protect themselves. Even some high profile public cases where a cop clearly murdered an innocent victim, are not recorded as shootings in their official case files. So the statistics will tend to have errors in favor of the police. Many of those fatal civilian murders may be accidental or justified because the victims were violent criminals, and when the police get their parades and pay in those cases they should be congratulated. However if a few hundred of those 1,000 murders were ‘questionable’, that would still mean that cops were responsible for more than double the unjustified killings that are committed against them; and that is assuming that all cop murders are unjustified. All too often cops are considered above the law by courts, so they can commit crimes like murder legally; because “their jobs are hard, and they put their lives on the line to serve and protect”.

The stress of being a cop has more to do with our racist and unjust system, which orders cops to enforce laws against poor people, harsher and more often than against rich people. Racism has more to do with wealth than race, because more ‘whites’ are wealthier than ‘blacks’; and so racial stereotypes (profiling) have more to do with who has money for lawyers and who has political power. If more blacks had more money than whites, the racism would be reversed; therefore racism is subject to classism. Those in power keep their power by oppressing everyone else, even those in their own ‘race’.

To further explain why race is less of a factor in shootings than money, the statistics show very clearly that more whites are killed than blacks; most of the murders occurring in lower class neighborhoods, and most victims are lower class. There are more ‘whites’ than ‘blacks’, even though many ‘blacks’ may have more white relatives than black relatives. Race is far more superficial than ethnicity or culture; even personalities are more substantial than a person’s appearance. We have many more black cops now more than ever, and still more blacks are killed in proportion to their population than whites (death rate per race).

Cops shoot more whites than blacks. However the reasons why cops shoot so many people to begin with, has to do with their militarized training and equipment. It is long past time that their funding be spent on more humanist programs to retrain police to actually help people more often than hurt them. If cops were trained to be more friendly and helpful as social workers, there would be less crime and less violence in society; so there would be less excuses to brainwash citizens into bullies with badges. Currently police badges are licenses to kill.

“Although half of the people shot and killed by police are white, black Americans are shot at a disproportionate rate. They account for less than 13 percent of the U.S. population, but are killed by police at more than twice the rate of white Americans. Hispanic Americans are also killed by police at a disproportionate rate.” – WP

Cops shoot to death about 1,000 people annually. People shoot to death under 50 cops annually. “47 officers were gunned down by the end of 2018” – CNN

The Covid Riots are not just about George Floyd or ‘Black Lives Matter’, people of all colors are expressing their rage over the oppression of civil rights by law enforcement and those who make the laws. The masses are pissed because our cost of living exceeds our income, and we get harassed and attacked by police. The prison industrial complex is largely for profit, and allows modern slavery.

*”The police report lists Breonna Taylor’s injures as NONE, even though she was shot 8 times” and murdered in her own home without committing any crime. – Democracy Now! June 11, 2020

Cop violence is not just a black and white issue, it is a working class issue.

The Decline of American White Men

Post-Modern White Male Destruction: Causes of Our Resentment, Anger, & Despair

American white men are self-destructing more than ever before since WW2 due to a return to Great Depression economic poverty for the masses, and most of our wealth going to the rich elites. We comprise a large percentage of the US population, but despite not being a minority, we are increasingly killing ourselves and others in a desperate struggle to maintain our ‘dominant legacy’ (social profile expectations based on cultural history). If you know white men who are acting more desperate, hooked on hard meth or heroin, and more masochist and sadistic please know it is not just you, it is part of a systemic problem that has to do with self worth decline compared to the last generation. Decreasing wealth for white men, compounded by mortgage and student debt which decimated the middle-class after years of subjugation working for free to fund institutions, we find ourselves less likely to support ourselves, and certainly not mates or family dependents. These problems of expectation affect our honor, and we hate ourselves and want to blame other poor people within shooting range. Before debating this issue, it is important to study the statistics of sustainability.

More people die from poverty than terrorism. According to TED speaker Dan Gilbert, more people die from poverty than if a terrorist detonated a nuke; statistically ‘Why We Make Bad Decisions‘.  Also ‘Poverty isn’t a lack of character; it’s a lack of cash‘ according to Rutger Bregman, and other humanists.  [ Poverty stats ]

Mass incarceration does not help. Even if blacks are proportionately in prison more, we have more of our whole population in jail than any other country. Between 1980 and 2015, the number of people incarcerated in America increased from roughly 500,000 to over 2 million. The Bureau of Justice Statistics reports that 35% of state prisoners are white, 38% are black, and 21% are Hispanic. Our national population of poverty is enforced with taxes that pay for the prisons, police, and military. [ Stats of mass incarceration: NAACP ‘Criminal Justice Facts‘;  Sentencing Project;  USA has the largest ‘Prison Population‘ in the World (click on the chart to sort = 2,121,600) ]

Yes meth and heroin are largely a white people problem. ‘Christian White Men’ are more likely to use those hard drugs in poverty today. [ Stats for drug addiction: AAC; MH Race Stats for Drug Addiction; NIH ‘Drug Treatment Facts‘; NCBI Race & Gender Studies

Our average life span has been reduced according to critical studies. Men already died younger on average than women, but now whites in general are living shorter lives, despite medical advances. [ NPR ‘Deaths of Despair’ ]

Poverty causes many to join the Military, where we still feel suicidal despite guaranteed pay and benefits; because the ‘War On Terror’ is perpetual and demoralizing (see MIC). Never forget all the soldier suicides during the endless war on terror. Since 2001 apx 22 die a day (144,000+) RIP. Women are more likely to report mental fatigue, so that needs to be accounted for in the raw data; because men are more likely to act out rather than report themselves for problems (‘macho pride’ social stereo-type issue). [ Veteran Suicides by State ‘Once A Soldier’; Veteran Suicide Hotline 1-800-273-8255; ‘Playing with War Wisdom‘ ]

Yes Trump is a symptom of our problem.  [ ‘REAL Reasons For Trump’s Impeachment‘ Redacted Tonight; Trump is a con-artist scamming bigoted rapist Chump ]

Yes mass shootings are symptoms of our problems. ‘Christian White Men’ are terrorists more often than Muslims or anyone else in America. [ Statistics of Mass Shootings by Race ]

Access to guns and explosives for psychotic men in every state, with no substantial health care plan for mental illness does not help.  [ Gun & Explosive stats – ATF ]

Less jobs paying a living wage, relative to the cost of living, is at the heart of our problem [Michael Moore’s films; Noam Chomsky’s ‘Requiem for the American Dream‘]. Companies prefer to use migrant workers who work for less (and automation), rather than pay middle-class wages. Capitalist corporations corrupt government against the good of the people (aka general population). Despite all these problems with our system, there is some hope for us to increase our standards of living proposed by the Next System Project (NSP), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), and Bernie Sanders with the Green New Deal.  [ NSP Democratic Investment Bank; AOC GND; Sanders’ GND ]

Speak out about the larger problems, and surprise neo-fascist racists by explaining why minorities are not to blame for big problems that affect the majority of the population (which includes minorities). Surprise! Our economic problems are not solved by race wars, although the rich elites who own corporations are fine with neo-fascists like Trump because race wars benefit them. Be smart, don’t blame race for a plutocratic system that keeps us all down. We all benefit when we come together and cooperate to make change as ‘We The People’!

Batman vs Guns

Posted in Critical Commentary of Civilization, Legal / Laws with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on July 22, 2012 by Drogo

This article is written in response to all the shootings and mass killings that have happened as a result of guns; most recently the Colorado “Batman Movie Theater Slaughter” (apx. 70 shot, 12 killed). Also the author has had several personal experiences with muggers, psychopaths, and convicted felons.

For those that do not know about the comic book character Batman*, let me start by saying that although he is a violent vigilante, he is against guns and murder in general. Batman is against guns in principle because his parents were shot and killed by a mugger outside of a movie theater in the 1940s. So Batman uses intimidation, martial arts, non-lethal weapons, and citizen arrests to deal with criminals. Although he has dark periods when the horns on his cowl get longer, and he may feel like dealing justice by killing a criminal, he fights against the urge to do that because he would become too much like the enemy, and because he specifically fights against armed people that hurt others.

“Far, far more Americans are killed every year by firearms, in this country — 31,000 in 2010 alone — than were killed on 9/11. We have terrorism right in our midst.” – Dan Rodricks NPR fb-blog

Historically it is true we killed each-other more often using primitive weapons, however i believe in our culture today it is harder to kill someone by using a primitive weapon because we actually are more ethical in general. The 2000 US Census clearly shows guns being the primary weapon used in murders, and all other weapons were significantly less.

Guns kill more people than would be killed if we did not have them today, simply because guns are easier for idiots to use, and it is an easier weapon to kill more people with (than a blade for example). By using a gun, one is less connected to a victim, and there is less time for empathy, morality, ethics, or someone else to stop you.

Despite the fact that gun murders are higher than any other weapon, no one is going to take guns away from us (2nd Amendment to the Constitution). However it is safe to acknowledge the fact of the statistics as a basis for conversation about how we can help people like that shooter to either be more responsible, or if we cannot help them enough mentally then we should make sure they do not have access to guns (or any weapons for that matter, which means confining them or banishing them).

Now granted, in the case of this shooter in the theater, he may have just resorted to using explosives if he could not get guns; but the statistics do seem to favor the use of guns for people into killing other people. Whether every person that killed using guns would have killed using another weapon, i do not think so, but im sure some would have. Im not saying take guns away from responsible people, im saying we should improve the desire for people to be responsible in communities, and to do that we need to be more responsible.

I personally relate to Batman because although I am a conscientious objector to wars (see my book “Ten COW” that I submitted to the US Air Force), I am not a strict pacifist because I believe in self-defense, some hunting, and the ability to use force to defend others. So like Batman, I would prefer to be peaceful, but sometimes there is a need to meet violence with violence, even though violence is wrong. Also like Batman, I prefer not to use guns.

So in closing, I would like to say that we should all be more like Batman; because he clearly cannot handle the work load by himself. Sure not all of us are fit enough, trained enough, wealthy enough, or brave enough; but we can still be more like Batman by looking into the shadows for other lost souls to help by being their friend, or to find help for if we can do nothing ourselves.

RIP all my friends who have died from accidental or intentional gun use: BJ McMurray age 13, shot by his brother in the heart while hunting; Martin Mouser died age 20, put a beer can on his head while drunk for his friend to shoot off, and got shot in the heart; Mike Mihalik aged 20s, gun shot in the heart; etc… those 3 boys were known and loved not just by me, but many other friends and family members. May they not be forgotten.
